Seasonal Cambial Activity and Formation of Secondary Phloem and Xylem in White Oaks (Quercus alba L.)
نویسندگان
چکیده
(1) Background: the cambium has seasonal activity, forming earlywood and early phloem with relatively wide conducting cells, which will function during most favorable season, latewood late narrower typically less season. However, few studies have focused on when these two contrasting tissue types are formed in relation to climatic conditions. (2) Methods: senior author of this paper made weekly collections for an entire year four specimens per collection back 1960s, using traditional anatomical methods study detail what was producing progressively. (3) Results: annual growth rings evident both secondary xylem phloem. The resumes activity April, simultaneous formation wood Both production initiated June, peak ends its August. Phloem marked by radially narrow sieve elements interspersed among a band axial parenchyma dark contents. Most produce only one fiber This feature may be used as indirect ring marker. Wood very vessels thick-walled, fibers. (4) Conclusions: trees their long before beginning autumn, indicating that they prepare ahead selective regime, phenomenon likely dependent photoperiod. Living present yearlong.

Lignin Composition and Structure Differs between Xylem, Phloem and Phellem in Quercus suber L.
The composition and structure of lignin in different tissues-phellem (cork), phloem and xylem (wood)-of Quercus suber was studied. Whole cell walls and their respective isolated milled lignins were analyzed by pyrolysis coupled with gas chromatography/mass spectrometry (Py-GC/MS), two-dimensional nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy (2D-NMR) and derivatization followed by reductive cleavage ...
متن کاملsimulation and experimental studies for prediction mineral scale formation in oil field during mixing of injection and formation water
abstract: mineral scaling in oil and gas production equipment is one of the most important problem that occurs while water injection and it has been recognized to be a major operational problem. the incompatibility between injected and formation waters may result in inorganic scale precipitation in the equipment and reservoir and then reduction of oil production rate and water injection rate. ...
Quercus nigra and Quercus alba
lnvestigaltons into the nature of desiccation-sensitive, or recalcitant, seed behavior have as yet failed to identify exact causes of this phenomenon. Experiments with Quercus nigra L. and Quercus alba L. were conducted to examine physiological and biochemical changes brought about by seed desiccation and to determine if there were predictable changes in seed moisture content, m enthalpy (heat ...
متن کاملPhylogeny and Introgression of California Scrub White Oaks (Quercus section Quercus)
The taxonomy of oaks (Quercus) is always a challenge because many species exhibit variable phenotypes that overlap with other species. The scrub White Oaks of California are no exception. In California, Quercus section Quercus (i.e., White Oaks) includes six species of scrub oaks plus four tree oak species. Field identification utilizes leaf traits and acorns, when available, as well as geograp...
متن کاملDevelopment of Molecular Markers for Determining Continental Origin of Wood from White Oaks (Quercus L. sect. Quercus)
To detect and avoid illegal logging of valuable tree species, identification methods for the origin of timber are necessary. We used next-generation sequencing to identify chloroplast genome regions that differentiate the origin of white oaks from the three continents; Asia, Europe, and North America. By using the chloroplast genome of Asian Q. mongolica as a reference, we identified 861 varian...
